UA Press Release 2010
The United Society of Artists (founded in 1922) has become one of the fastest
growing associations of painters and sculptors, fulfilling the aim of being a
representative society of competent artists within Britain who work in a wide range of
styles and subjects and in diverse media.
It operates in a mutually co-operative way and holds at least one Open Exhibition per
year in London. Such exhibitions are for members and candidates for membership
but also open to other artists whose work can satisfy the Society's standards. Prizes
include art materials from Jacksons and other suppliers. The 89th Open Annual is at
the Menier Gallery Chocolate Factory, London SE1 1RU (13-17 April 2010, 10.00 to
18.00, Sat. 10.00 to 16.00).
In addition, the United Society of Artists intends to hold exhibitions of work by
members only with the aim of promoting their talents, of selling their work and
winning commissions. In addition, members join together on a co-operative basis to
mount UA Satellite Exhibitions on particular themes.
The United Society of Artists also helps and encourages members to run courses,
undertake teaching or tutoring and give talks.
Potential members can also apply for membership at any time throughout the year
via a simple two-stage selection process. (196 words)
