Quay Arts’ biennial contemporary art exhibition
features selected work by some of the finest
up-and-coming and fully established artists
from across the UK.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quay Arts is situated within an ex-brewery warehouse on the banks of the River
Medina and is the leading art centre on the Isle of Wight. Quay Arts supports the
development and display of new work by contemporary visual artists.
The building with its waterside terrace café bar, craft shop, theatre and four
galleries was re-designed by award-winning architect; Tony Fretton (Camden
Arts Centre, Lisson Gallery, ArtSway) and presents work that is of national and
international interest. At the moment the main gallery, The West Gallery, is
hosting an eclectic exhibition of works collected by General Sir Michael and
Christine West (whom the gallery is named after due to their contribution to Quay
Arts in the 1970s) includes works by Bridget Riley, Barbara Hepworth, Elisabeth
Frink, Roy Lichtenstein, L.S. Lowry and Frank Auerbach (until Sat 4 Sep, 2010).
Previous contemporary solo exhibitors include Rachel Whiteread, Andy
Goldsworthy and Kurt Jackson.
Quay Arts are thrilled to announce its biennial Open exhibition 2010 and are
looking for works that have a contemporary feel, which reflect current themes and
concerns, as well as works that are produced using traditional subjects and
methods. The theme is completely ‘Open’, however, all works must be made
within 2010.
Quay Arts aims to select work that reflects the diversity of drawing, painting, print
and sculpture within current artistic practices and to produce an exhibition that
can be enjoyed by audiences from the South of England and across the UK.
To increase the diversity of mediums within ‘Open 2010’, expressions of interest
are also invited for non-visual artists who wish to use the space for live,
performance or installation work. Entrants must be 18 years old or over. For
further Terms and Conditions can be found within the Submission Application
Form.
There are three prizes to be won:

and-coming artists and experienced professionals to have the opportunity to
