PRESS RELEASE – SHEILA GIRLING
‘I’ll go on until you have to strap a paintbrush to me’ says prize‐winning painter.
‘For more than thirty years we have been
coming to Purbeck, where we own a
coastguard cottage. The seascape and the
landscape have proved to be constant
sources of inspiration in my work, when
therefore I was invited to exhibit paintings
at L’Artishe Gallery as part of the Purbeck
Arts Weeks it seemed very fitting. It is a
real pleasure to show in Swanage.’
Sheila Girling
For two weeks her work will be on show at
L’Artishe Gallery as part of Purbeck Art Weeks
Festival. For thirty years Girling has inspired
artists around the world. Her energy and
enthusiasm for her art is still fresh today. She
has said ‘I’ll go on until you have to strap a
paintbrush to me’.
Sheila Girling works in the area between
figuration and abstraction. She uses collage
on loosely applied acrylic grounds and brings
her love of seascapes to vivid life in this wide‐
ranging exhibition. Her passion for colour is
paramount.
Sheila Girlings show will help to bridge the
gap between town and country. Enabling a
local audience to access the work of an
internationally respected artist. This will
allow the gallery to be seen not just as a
venue in which to purchase art but
somewhere to come and look at art
providing a much‐needed cultural
community resource.
