Visitors to an exhibition by artists David McMillan & Peter J E Matthews will see

double when they unveil a unique dual picture. The exhibition, at Bath Artists'

Studios, Comfortable Place off the Upper Bristol Road will feature an intriguing

picture painted as two individual panels, one by each of the artists.

The pair worked on their own separate halves of the painting in different locations,

David in Edinburgh and Peter in Stockton and communicated only by telephone and

post as they plotted their progress. The aim was to produce pictures which were

identical mirror images but without seeing the other half until the work was

complete.

“The picture was more than a year in the making and was well before e-mail

technology, so it was a real challenge at the time,” recalled David.

The paintings, jointly called Edinburgh/Stockton: Stockton/Edinburgh will be brought

together for this special showing from 1st - 28th June and will be accompanied by

individual works by the two artists, David McMillan from 1st -15th June and Peter

Matthews from 16th -28th June.
