Friday 15 – Sunday 17 November 2013
Preview evening – Thursday 14 November 2013
Now an established annual event in Scotland’s contemporary art world, the 9th
edition of The Edinburgh Art Fair opens its doors at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, 11
New Market Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1RJ from Friday 15th until Sunday 17th November
2013. Organiser Arte in Europa transforms this venue into a vibrant and inspiring
environment, encouraging thousands of buyers to flock to Edinburgh to seek out
artworks by world renowned and highly collectable artists as well as recent
graduates showing for the first time at an art fair.
With thousands of works available for sale and, with prices starting at seventy five
pounds and rising to tens of thousands of pounds, the fair is sure to have something
to satisfy everyone. From the most discerning collector to the novice first time buyer
the fair caters for people from all walks of life and for all tastes and budgets.
Galleries from Scotland, the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond are bringing an
eclectic mix from internationally renowned artists including John Piper, Peter Blake,
Peter Howson OBE, the late John Bellany, Alexander Miller and Joan Gillchrest, as
well as newer finds from emerging artists. Appealing to interior designers and the
general public, The Edinburgh Art Fair is the place to find the perfect painting or
sculpture for the home or office.
“The art galleries exhibiting at this year’s fair are offering hundreds of works of
original art by 20th and 21st century artists. The Edinburgh Art Fair gives visitors the
opportunity to select from an extremely wide range of paintings, illustrations, limited
edition artists’ prints and sculpture. It is the perfect place to visit if considering
starting a collection or finding the outstanding piece for a specific location. With
prices starting from under £100, why not select a piece of art as a christening, 21st
birthday or wedding present? You have a very good chance of picking up one of
the stars of the future.”
Why not make a day of it? You can leave your kids in the complimentary crèche
(birth to 12 years), so that you can peruse the art without interruption. Even the
young budding artists amongst them can partake in various art related activities to
keep them happy. There will be daily printmaking displays and workshops and
painting lessons for those adventurous enough to get their hands dirty creating their
own unique work of art while the fully licensed café bar and restaurant offers a
range of breakfast rolls, sandwiches, tray bakes, cakes, soups and high teas and, for
those looking for something more elegant, there is a champagne bar in the main
exhibiting hall so as you can take your time, explore the art and contemplate your
purchases over a nice glass of bubbly.
Edinburgh has excellent public transport and the Corn Exchange benefits greatly
from several bus and train routes. Lothian Region Transport runs a number 35 which
stops outside the Corn Exchange and Slateford Train Station (on the Glasgow central
line) is a two minute walk to the venue.
