Helfa Gelf 2013
North Wales artists are preparing for Helfa Gelf Art Trail, with 171 studios, workshops and pop-up
galleries throwing open their doors and artists welcoming visitors during September.
The largest open studios event in Wales involves over 300 artists and craftmakers inviting visitors
to see where and how they work. Artists open their studios for free over the Fridays, Saturdays
and Sundays throughout September.
An exciting range of art in many forms is available to visitors including: basket making, ceramics,
jewellery, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, metal and woodwork, film, digital and
performance art, fashion and textiles.
To help you find artists ‘The Art Trail Map’ is an online interactive guide, available at
http://www.helfagelf.co.uk/en/map/. This includes information on every studio’s location, directions,
satellite map, opening times, a profile of the artist and a gallery of images to help you plan your
visits.
Funding has allowed the development of the website, the guide and the wider promotion of the
event. The Helfa Gelf Art Trail project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for
Wales 2007–2013, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund
for Rural Development.
Whether you visit a new studio venue or visit an established Helfa Gelf artist, there is an amazing
range of art available. During visits on the Helfa Gelf Art Trail, you can buy art direct from the
maker or just experience the wide range of art being created in North Wales.
