Arran Open Studios
Largely revered as one of Scotland’s most beautiful islands, and known
popularly as Scotland in miniature, the Isle of Arran hosts its third Open Studios
event August 14-17th inclusive. Increased numbers of participants from last
year’s, the event is moving up a gear.
The island boasts 34 artists from a population of a mere 5000 and works are
wide ranging from paintings through sculpture to print, furniture, jewellery,
ceramics, textile and candle-making.
As impressive as this creative crop, is the island landscape which can be
admired from the Art Bus which runs three days of the long weekend and waits
for visitors to peruse studios before driving on to the next studio on its itinerary.
Visitors will at one moment be in a Horatio Mcculloch blasted glen; the next in
a dell from a Joseph Noel Paton painting or by a riverbank and imagine Millais’
Ophelia drifting plaintively lilting past.
This is a unique opportunity to visit the workplaces of artists and makers of all
descriptions and quiz, enjoy ( and purchase from) them in their natural habitat.
