a way through
An exhibition of landscape by Michael Spark and Pamela Waugh
including drawings, monotypes and oil paintings – 14-19 November 2016
at The Framers Gallery, 36 Windmill Street London W1T 2JT
This is the first joint exhibition of Michael Spark and Pamela Waugh at a London Gallery. It will
showcase their individual approaches to the art of landscape in drawing, monoprinting and
painting and is based on ‘a way through’ the book they produced together.
Their work is all about finding a way through the landscape, be it a path, a track, a river, a
hedgerow, a line of trees. The landscape has been altered on the surface by human activity
but, underneath, its contours and shapes have remained unchanged for thousands of years.
It is important for them to develop a personal relationship with the landscape, returning to the
same places time after time, so they create work in which they are totally involved and which
reflects an emotional response to the landscape.
The power of their work is in the ability to give us ‘a way through’ to a personal vision that we
have never before encountered, and to feel in a moment of true attention what they felt.
