NICK POULLIS
‘In the Languedoc’ AN EXHIBITION OF 48 WATERCOLOURS Opens Sunday 18th November 11am – 5 pm (continues Tues-Sat 9.30 – 5.30) until Saturday 24th November |
I am delighted to exhibit this collection
of new work by the up and coming young Artist Nick Poullis. His
watercolours are painted with traditional techniques but in a fresh
and contemporary style. Full of sunshine, these new paintings take
their inspiration from the beautiful Languedoc region of South West
France and show some of the mediaeval mills along the river
L’Herault. This river passes through such towns as Beziers and
Pezenas and ends at the Mediterranean. The paintings depict many of
the features special to this region such as olive trees and the
landscape where many of the local people work. There are scenes of
and near the Canal du Midi and areas passed through by Rick Stein in
his gastronomic television series based on the route along the canal.
Nick Poullis was born in Henley-on-Thames in 1974 and brought up in
Amersham and now lives in France. After studying at the University
of East Anglia, Cambridge Campus, Cambridge gaining a B.A. Hons. in
illustration he went on to illustrate books including The
Constables of Horley Mill, by Clair Constable, published by
Surrey Mills UK and the award winning The Voyage of the
Arctic Tern by Hugh Montgomery published Candlewick Press U.S.A.,
Walker Books U.K. and Synapse, U.K. His watercolours have been
exhibited at the Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal Society of
British Artists, Sunday Times Singer and Friedlander Exhibition, the
Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Royal Institute of
Painters in Watercolours, also at Art Galleries in London, Bristol,
Reigate, Amersham and Sevenoaks and has appeared in articles in The
Artist, The Artists and Illustrators Magazine and the
International Artists Magazine. He has won awards at the
Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Institute of Painters in
Watercolours. He is an Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham
Society of Artists and a book The Art of Nick Poullis, to be
published by David and Charles, is planned for 2009. Work by Nick
Poullis is in the collections of the Royal Air Force, St. John’s
