PRESS RELEASE
Festival 2007
The Leith Gallery is showing a very diverse collection of paintings, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery during the Festival. From the large canvas of “Venus” by Jack Morrocco full of pattern and intriguing objects to small gems of yachts from Kate Christie where you can almost taste the salt in the air, there is something for everyone. Anne Skinner’s “Remember Venice” evokes memories in a delicate watercolour whilst the young artist, Anne Marie Wrightson brings humour with “Cool Dude” where a mouse comes to terms with an ice lolly! Both Ewan Stirrat and recent graduate, Suzanne Chong have chosen birds as their theme, but while Ewan’s painting has an abundance of sparrows and tits, Suzanne uses her one bird to great effect in her triptych. City streets of New York by David Farren and Edinburgh by Ron Eardley contrast with stunning landscapes and seascapes by amongst others, Alexandra Steele, Frank Colclough, Joyce Borland, Douglas Phillips and Deborah Phillips. Figurative work is well represented by Cherylene Dyer, Owen Claxton, Alan King, Bill Gillon and Ian Ritchie to mention but a few.
