Things have improved over here recently though, this month seeing the re- openings of spaces celebrating two 20th C. British giants, Henry Moore and Stanley Spencer. With the massive exhibition of his work at Tate Britain (to 8 August), the Henry Moore Foundation , based at his house and studios in Perry Green, must be anticipating even more visitors than ever to his home Hoglands and the various exhibition barns and studios that form the complex. Osborne Samuel in Mayfair, meanwhile, are launching a new catalogue of Moore prints including two signed originals as yet unseen. Down in Cookham, central to Spencer's imaginative memory, the Stanley Spencer Gallery this year takes a new approach to its annual loan display, with a splendidly focused exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the death of Spencer's hugely influential first wife, artist Hilda Carline. Not to be missed nor, if you've yet to do it, the chance to walk in his footsteps . . . BEST OF british S tanley Spencer, ‘Hilda, Unity & Dolls’, courtesy Leeds Art Gallery
