GALLERIES APRIL 10 BOOK review With a show just closing at Crane Kalman (1 April) and another opening at Kentmere House (3-25 April) and the launch of a new volume on her work by Philip Vann (Sansom £29.95), this has been, to say the least, a busy spring for Tessa Newcomb! As Ronald Blythe nicely observes in his foreword to the book, Newcomb's role as an artist lies in recording "the greatness of small things" and it is Vann's particular gift in his text to focus on the concentrated specificity of Newcomb's gaze, drawing out the web of visual, poetic and observational references that gives each work, and each subject, its dignity and proper weight.
