Tue–Sat 10–5, admn free visualarts@ipswich.gov.uk www.townhallgalleries.org.uk t 01473 432863 rating canvases made during the course of youthful transatlantic voyages and a couple of smaller studies of derelict boats at sea, this show could perhaps more properly be described as ‘Sargent and the Seaside’, the other key works – most notably En Route pour la Pêche and Fishing for Oysters at Cancale, which derive from studies made in Normandy in 1874/75, and Neapolitan Child- ren Bathing made on Capri a year or so later – being, effectively, Boudin-esque genre scenes, albeit very attractive.
