GALLERIES FEBRUARY 10 THUMB nail With their Nathaniel Thomas Davies show in 2009 one of the rediscoveries of the year, Whitfield Fine Art have come up with another extremely interesting figure, Theodore Mendez. An astonishingly precocious product of Camberwell in the early 50s, he was just 20 when he had his first exhibition at Redfern in 1954 and, 4 years after that, was teaching back at Camberwell where he was to work for the rest of his career. This show focuses on his early abstract paintings, substantial, complex pieces that are surely worthy of more sustained critical attention.
