GALLERIES JANUARY 10 thumbnail When Hungarian-born Andras Kalman first opened his gallery, in December 1949, it was initially based in Manchester, hence its long-standing association with L.S. Lowry. There was much to the gallery's subsequent success than just that of course and, by the time he moved down to London in 1956 and became Crane Kalman, he had built up a highly distinctive roster of British and European artists in what he termed a 'traditional modern' vein. Sadly no longer around to cele- brate its 60th birthday – he died only last year – this show gives a vivid portrait of its past and now continuing success under his children's management.
