GALLERIES APRIL 11 Trained originally as a sculptor back in the 1970s (St Martin’s), most of John Crossley’s professional career has been as a painter – teaching at Chelsea among other things – and it is tempting to see in the subtle interweaving of delicate organic shapes with a rich high-pitched colour field of the paintings here ( Bicha ) some trace at least of those earlier instincts. In their exuberance and radiance, and sense of independent ‘lives’, they often seem to suggest subtle internal narratives that, somehow, unmistakably touch on the human.
