Recent paintings by eminent Cork Street artist; over Though very much part of that generation of abstract artists impressed by the qualities of the English landscape – Terry Frost, John Wells and Bryan Winter among them – George Dannatt has remained relatively unknown. Since his death in 2009, aged 94, that situation seems finally to be changing and this major show, of 60 pieces from the artist’s estate, at The ARThouse Gallery in Bournemouth, and thus close to the Wessex landscape that lies at the heart of his work, reveals him to be, at the very least, their equal. Crisp, richly textured and intensely poetic, Dannatt’s is a voice to be greatly admired. NU THUMB nails Landscape with Barrow Site, 2003
