Born in 1923 and moving to New York in 1948, friends and co- artists included Rothko, Pollock, De Kooning and Motherwell. Jenkins evolved an intensely personal style involving controlled paint-pouring in rich transparent and translucent veils of deep, gem-like colour. It has been a style that has resonated powerfully in Europe (he first showed in Paris in 1953) and the UK where he has exhibited at the Redfern for many years now. This latest, focusing on the 60s and 70s, is a marvellous reminder of a gifted artist.
