But, as always, it takes an artist’s acuteness of vision to tell us, however uncomfortably, how we are actually living in the present. Nor does the fact that events have come to prove her right diminish the continuing power of the work – a memorial wreath of Poppyday Roses ( Enduring Loss) made out of Afghani notes, the number commemorating deaths to date, like many other pieces, makes the uncomfortable association between money and power (and its human consequences) pointed and heart-rending.
