New body of work featuring paintings of Anglesey scenes and beyond in his first solo at Ucheldre. Twice Winner of the Art for All Competition, Laurie’s evocative work is always popular so come early to snap up affordable high quality Donald McIntyre ‘Dark Sky, Iona’ There’s a nice story behind the December exhibition at Ffin y Parc of 63 of the late Donald McIntyre’s small sketches and studies of Anglesey; they came from a sketchbook sent to the gallery by his grandson recording a painting holiday they had taken together on the island a few summers ago and had never been seen in public. Born in Yorkshire of Scottish parents but learning his painting on the Scottish West Coast, McIntyre worked as a dentist until just after the last war before getting back full-time to his youthful love of painting in North Wales, where he lived for some 45 years up to his death in 2009. It was an unusual career path but a very successful and well-regarded one and, as the vivid and painterly studies in this sketchbook (also turned into a facsimile book for this show) make very apparent, much deserved.
