Dec 5–Jan 2013. info@lemonstreetgallery.co.uk www.lemonstreetgallery.co.uk Mon–Sat 10.30–5.30 t 01872 275757 Frank Bramley ‘Eyes and no Eyes’ 1887 at Penlee House Gallery and Museum Newlyn’s Cool Newlyn, so much part of the changes and development of British art in the 19th and 20th centuries, continues to be an important hub for artists working in west Cornwall today though its fortunes, in terms of gallery space, have waxed and waned. Happily, things seem to be on the up with a fresh impetus due, in no small part, to the opening last year of the Newlyn School of Art. Sited close to the original run by Stanhope Forbes, it provides a variety of courses by, and studios for, some of the best known local artists and teachers (Paul Wadsworth, Jessica Cooper, Neil Pinkett, Jesse Leroy Smith for instance) and is attracting students from across the peninsula as well as from ‘up country’. A new initiative from the school has been the opening of the Bucca Gallery in the old Badcock’s premises which, together with Helen Feiler’s gallery, has brought art back to the very centre of Newlyn. Both galleries have a seasonal feel to their December exhibitions – Bucca is showing small, affordable paintings by both well known and unrepresented artists (very much part of their ethos) while Helen Feiler provides an
