The plan had always been to have both. The Curator Hisami Omori, who had gained her second degree in Nutrition, wanted to serve real Japanese food, like the green tea sourced from Shizuka, under Mount Fuji, where she and the gallery's Director, Hideyuki Kume, come from. In a similar spirit the gallery exhibits Japanese artists, working in the traditional crafts or arts, who demonstrate 'Japanese' qualities of quietness, contemplation and skill, steering away from contemporary Japanese art's less meditative and somewhat elitist character. Lya Nagado's 'Still Life', on to June 23, presents just such qualities, mixing simple composition with a quality of ghost-like calm. ST THUMB nails
