GALLERIES NOVEMBER 12 MAP 27 LONDON CORK STREET Ed Hodgkinson ‘FM profile’ Trained at Camberwell in the 90s, a school famous in its time for its emphasis on drawing, Ed Hodgkinson’s spare, elegant paintings of the female nude, in the distinctly unusual medium of enamel on aluminium, can indeed often seem really more drawn than painted. Using simple, strongly coloured grounds enhances the effect too, though this shouldn’t deceive one into thinking of these drawings as just elegant, enlarged sketches. There is a complexity here that occurs, improvisationally almost, in the process of the drawing which conveys 3-dimensional space and is suggestive of a tender lyricism ( Browse & Darby in assoc. with Mark Jason).
