Jan 19–Mar 23. An exploration of the relevance of Super 8mm film in a digital age, including work by iconic film-maker Derek Jarman and contemporary visual artists including Giovanna Maria Casetta and Adam Kossoff. Accompanied by screenings and events. enquiries@smithsrow.org www.smithsrow.org Tue–Sat 10.30–5, admn free t 01284 762081 G iovanna Maria Casetta Still from ‘The Death of the Non-Blonde, Part I’ © the artist When Kodak introduced the Super 8 film format it revolutionised home-movie film- making overnight and was, by the mid-70s, the most widely used film technology in the world. It was an instant hit with artist-film-makers too and remained so even when video came in in the 80s. Nice thinking then from Smith’s Row in Bury St Edmunds (see Map 17) to put on a show that brings together early practioners like Derek Jarman with a more recent group of international artists, Adam Kossoff and Giovanna Maria Casetta among them. Entitled ‘Flicker’ it provides a lively exploration of how this ‘old’ analogue medium has become, and remains, a significant element in our cultural heritage and creative practice in a digital age.
