To keep up to date with upcoming shows including a Summer mixed show, a Bobbie Russon show & Jason Hicklin ‘Loch na Lathaich’ A former student of the eminent printmaker Norman Ackroyd RA, Jason Hicklin is now an extremely well-regarded and well-established figure in this field in his own right. Sharing with his mentor a love of the wildest and most extreme aspects of the British and Irish landscape – in particular the Western Highlands and Islands and the West Coast of Ireland – not to mention the particular emphasis on the etching process above all, Hicklin’s work is characterised by a perhaps even more austerely abstract and expressive approach to the subject. Thus in his latest show of etchings and graphite drawings at Beardsmore , entitled ‘Mull: water-surrounded land’, he infuses the scratchings and blotchings, dense marks and white spaces of his black and white medium with a ferocious sense of colour and place.
