GALLERIES JUNE 13 Sargy Mann ‘See the girl with the red dress’ Blindness, by definition, has to be the cruellest affliction a painter can bear and should apparently mark the end of a their career. Not Sargy Mann however, whose blindness became total some seven years ago but who is, nonetheless, painting with quite undiminished vigour and elan, this show at Cadogan Contemporary his fourth in that time. Having always needed to paint, as he puts it, “a real physical subject external to himself” makes the achievement here even more remarkable, arriving via close technical collaboration with his painter wife Frances, at portraits, interiors and conversation pieces vibrant and intense with remembered colour – an art, literally, of sensation.
