Back in the early 60s Joe Tilson was regarded as one of the key figures of British Pop Art: he’d just emerged from the Royal College of Art where, in 1955, he won the much coveted Rome Prize and with Peter Blake, a fellow student there, his witty, and distinctive, category-busting prints, paintings, multiples and reliefs gaining him an instant rep- utation with shows at the star gallery of the day, Kasmin. Then, in the 70s, Italy beckoned him back and he has lived there ever since, England rather forgetting him. Not any more though, as this exuberant show at Bohun Gallery, covering his entire ca- reer, makes plain – Pop Art lives! NU THUMB nails
