No commentary on a colonial past, no overtly political, social or cultural reference points. Ablade, trained in the UK and USA in the early 60s, has taken on Western ideas of the abstract and expressive possibilities of oils to portray the vibrancy and richness of his native country to increasing acclaim. In Accra he founded and directed the much admired Artists Alliance Gallery (opened by Kofi Annan) and is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London. In short a significant figure in both African and World Culture. NU THUMB nails
