This he somehow managed to combine with teaching at Brighton for 19 years but there was, for a decade or more, little new work and no shows. Then, suddenly, in the early 90s he got going again with a vengeance, to the point where a massive new catalogue raisonné of the prints has just been published, an early works show in London (at the Redfern last month) and this important retrospective exhibition of his prints at Belgrave St Ives . It was that time in West Dorset that seems to have proved crucial as it turns out, the marks of ancient man he discovered in that landscape adding a poetic layer of depth and meaning to the earlier hard-edge abstraction.
