See also the Cork Founded just 20 years ago the Estorick Collection have always consistently punched way above their weight, the place becoming the focus of some of the best exhibitions of 20th century Italian art in the UK. Their latest show ‘The Enchanted Room: Modern Works from the Pinacoteca di Brera’ is an excellent example, showing for the first time in this country works from what is generally regarded as one of the finest collections of Modernist Italian art in the world, donated to the museum in 1976 by Emilio and Maria Jesi. Notable among the Futurist pieces is Boccioni’s radical ‘Divisionist Self-Portrait’ and Severini’s dynamic ‘Le Nord Sud’, not to mention a wonderful group of Carrà’s Pittura Metafisica paintings, ‘The Metaphysical Muse’ outstanding among them, and Modigliani’s moving portrait of painter Moïse Kisling.
