She stayed on in the UK, marrying the sculptor Nigel Hall and working in a quietly reclusive way that saw her exhibiting in this country and abroad on a comparatively infrequent basis up to her death in 2016. This is a matter for some regret for she was the most delicate and poetic of abstract painters, the exhibition at Z uleika Gallery this month (second part of a travelling show the gallery is organising to celebrate her life and work) revealing the underlying love of landscape that infuses all her paintings – largely monochrome blue, grey, pinky washes of light and shadow – and fills them with an unmistakable emotion.
