His work shares something of these cultural mixtures, its hyper or perhaps even photo-realist style having clear links with the 1960s work of artists like Richard Estes and Chuck Close, while their sense of big city alienation has certain echoes of Edward Hopper, yet their strong narrative strand also makes links to Jack Vettriano. The studies of young women in various forms of déshabillé or evening dress for example, show wit and human sympathy and are more ambiguous, even melancholy, tender and unmanipulative – and astoundingly skilful technically.
