HOMELANDS An exhibition of Landscape Paintings by Lydia Bauman 3 May - 3 July 2024 Press View: 2 May 4.00 - 7pm The Street Gallery University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 235 Euston Road London N1 2BU LYDIABAUMAN Studio F9 The Chocolate Factory N16 7SX www.lydiabauman.com lydia.bauman@googlemail.com @lydia_bauman_studio 07843 181270 Lydia Bauman is Polish-born artist and art historian based in London. Had it not been for the loss of her native country and language at the age of 12, she may never have become a painter of depopulated landscapes. Deeply moved by the fragility of the environment, Lydia’s paintings harness what is still beautiful and timeless about our surroundings, excluding as much as possible any traces of human intervention. Her unique mixed media technique, developed since her student days at the Fine Art Dept of Newcastle University, is one that offers an equivalent to the spirit of particular places - be they cultivated fields of Great Britain, or the wilderness of Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Israel or New Mexico, all of which are subjects of extensive bodies of work and over 30 solo exhibitions in the UK and abroad. Her unconventional materials, such as plaster, resin, beeswax, sand, or gold leaf, convey some of the materiality of nature more effectively than oil or acrylics on canvas. Deutsche Bank, Saatchi & Saatchi, United Airlines, State Street Bank, Warner Bros, Gordon Ramsey and the Dorchester are among her corporate collectors. HOMELANDS is a collection of landscape paintings reflecting the range of Lydia’s subject matter and the diversity of people passing through the doors of University College Hospital. Countries which inspired those paintings have once been home to many a Londoner. Their tranquil and vibrant interpretations might evoke nostalgia but also a sense of calm and security on what for most hospital visitors is an anxious time. This exhibition is being held at the invitation of UCLH Arts and Heritage UCLH’s arts programme. Established in 2005, UCLH Arts and Heritage is committed to providing a welcoming, uplifting environment for patients, visitors and staff . Funded by UCLH Charity and the Friends , UCLHArts and Heritage has developed into a multi award - winning programme which goes above and beyond NHS core business to deliver improved patient and staff outcomes through the arts.
