tanya@tanyabaxtercontemporary.com www.tanyabaxtercontemporary.comWith a painting career that began
aged 40, there is an aspect of
Rosa Sepple’s artistic trajectory
that is, in a woman's terms, not
that unusual – have your family
and then get down to work.
Usually though this means
working quietly in a corner, so to
speak, hoping to get discovered.
Not so with Sepple’s career
however; after a childhood spent
observing intently in the studio of
her Italian painter grandfather,
Sepple emerged as a fully formed
painter and a very successful one
at that, recently being elected first
woman president of the Royal
Institute of Painters in
Watercolours. You can see why;
her exuberant and fantastical
figurative style – Chagall meets
Anthony Green meets John Piper,
incorporating collage and paint on
jewelled surfaces, is hugely
attractive.
